Hurray, Hurrah, Hoorery, for Global Warming. Without it the earth would still be in the last Ice Age. Most of us would not be alive. Kansas has been called: "The Bread Basket of the U.S.A.
What would it be like if Kansas was under ice and snow for 8 or 9 months of the year.
What if almost the whole world was under ice and snow most of the year? Where would the food come from to feed the world's 7 billion people. Perhaps the world population would only be a few million people, because of the lack of food for more people.
Global Warming
1. I am convinced that the earth is experiencing global warming, however I do not believe a lot of what I hear about global warming. You probably have had experience with, (1)fireplaces, or (2) bon fires, or (3)infrared radiant heaters, or (4) sunlight (5)candles and lamps. As you must know, the closer you get to the fire (or the sun) the more energy you get. The hotter you and your clothing get. How about sunshine on a hot Summer day. Why is the weather so hot in July and August, in the northern hemisphere? Because we are a little closer to the sun in those months, of course. While we are experiencing the heat of Summer, those in the southern hemisphere are experiencing the cold of Winter. Why? They are farther from the sun at that time. Another factor is, that the sunrays must pass go through more of the atmosphere, during the winter months. I once knew a man who had a fire place and a very cold house. We would sit close to the fire place and “freeze on one side and burn on the other.” We would be cold on one side and hot on the other. After a few minutes we would turn around. Soon the side closest to the fire place would be hot, while the side farthest from the fire place would be cold. So, we turned around often. The closer we got to the fire place, the hotter we got on one side. The house was so “open”, that the fire place would not warm the room that it was located in. The same principal applies to radiant heaters, bon fires, the sun etc. The closer you get to them the hotter you get. If the earth were just a little farther from the sun, we would experience global cooling. Still a little farther than that, and the earth would quickly enter another ice age. I do not believe man caused global warming! Remember , the closer you get to the fire (or the sun) the more energy you get. The hotter your skin and clothing get. You perhaps remember the old illustrations , depicting a candle, one foot away from a piece of cardboard? The cardboard was 1 foot square. The amount of light falling on the cardboard was one candlepower. The next illustration was of a 2 foot by 2 foot piece of cardboard, 2 feet away from the candle. The total amount of light falling on the cardboard was 1 candlepower. It was 1/4th of a candlepower per square foot. Two feet X two feet = 4 square feet total. Every time the distance doubles the amount of light falling on each square foot is divided by 4. The same principle applies to our distance from the sun. If we were 2 times as far away from the sun we would receive 1/4 the amount of light and heat as we now receive. If we were 1/4 as far away from the sun we would receive 4 times as much light and heat as we now receive. The biggest factor in global warming and global cooling is our distance from the sun! The closer we are to the sun the warmer we will be. The farther we are from the sun, the colder we will be.
If tomorrow morning we woke up in the middle of a full scale ice age, billions of people would soon die from freezing and starvation. Now that is billions (with a “B”).
In the 1300's the Bubonic Plague struck Europe. It was brought on by “The Little Ice Age.” Temperatures dropped by 10 Degrees. The rats thrived and carried flees. Flees spread the Bubonic Plague, or Black Death. Meanwhile people were weakened because of the lack of food. Crops failed because of the low temperature, and the snow. During much of the normal growing season the ground was covered with snow. If the world was in a “Full Blown Ice Age” many crops could not grow. That would bring wide spread starving, and the loss of resistance to disease. The sun spots could have something to do with Global Warming. More sun spot activity may have something to do with the amount of heat and light that the sun puts out. Do you think Global Warming is a big problem ? Global Warming is nothing like a “full blown” Ice Age would be! If you had a choice of global warming or another ice age which would you choose? What do you think? I do not believe man caused global warming!
